Comments: Information is better placed in varioius policies ie place the laser information in the laser policies nad in this policy reference them. Part of information is really educational information. Add to heat sources ablation units and drill bits immediately after use minimally Under cautery include the use of a suction device when doing head and neck procedures as well as tenting of drapes to allow excape of 02 Application of ground pad is not relavant to fires -- relevant to patient burns. Add to Cautery -- keep active electrode cables free from knots. If cautery penil drops turn off cautery and disconnect fiberoptic light sources -- keep cable tips off drapes For mgnt of -- include turning off gasses to the area note OR's are located in different areas of hosp ie OB -- also invasive proceudres using cautery are done in CCL etc. We do not allow a cautery to go to a nursing unit or ER without an OR nurse going along Education should include periodic education of electrosurgery unit as this is the # one problem child. Consideration to mock drill in OR annually .
